Educational uses of Twitter

EDUCATIONAL USES OF  WITTER

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a live-update feed of user-based information compiled into a light version of a social networking site. Unlike Facebook or MySpace, Twitter is limited only to a 140 character status update - known as a "tweet" - and has limited profile options as well.

What is Twitter's Purpose?

Twitter is quoted as saying that it "keeps you informed with what matters most to you today and helps you discover what might matter to you most tomorrow." The up-to-date Tweeting is to promote user created news, links, and fun as well. Whatever you feel like Tweeting, it is there to be shared and regarded by the rest of the Twitter community and used accordingly.

How can Twitter be used Educationally?

Most social networking sites pride themselves in community and online social communication, but Twitter takes it a step forward in promoting the growth of user-based education in the same way Wikipedia does. Why go to CNN.com, when Twitter can provide you with a host of links from users from around the world? Why even visit a news site when a user is there to Tweet an eye-witness account of what has happened? In the world of classroom education versus just information, Twitter expands on the idea of "microblogging"; a means of teaching in an e-learning environment where users learn from each other's ideas.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING TWITTER FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES

Advantages:

- Creates an environment of educational learning that is fun and interesting as well

- Explores using alternative styles of e-learning-base education

- Combines the educational element with a social networking site many people are already familiar with

- Teaches people not very familiar with blogging and social networking sites key web-based skills while learning the content as well

Disadvantages:

- Creates a distraction for those who get caught up with the social or media-related aspect of social networking

- Allows for "information overload" to the user

- Creates a learning curve for those with little experience in understanding social networking sites

- Limit of information provided due to the internal working of Twitter itself

Hey David, looks pretty good. There needs to be inline APA references in your wiki. So wherever you used your references, make sure you reference them properly. Also, your references need to be in APA format. Other than that, your grammar is good and your videos work well with your wiki.

I know. The format keeps changing on me and I need to figure out why that is.

You also need to have at least 4 or more links relevant to your wiki. You don't have those. Let me know when you add everything in so I can let you know how it looks.

Thanks Amanda. I keep getting caught up in this formatting problem. I hope this isn't the end of the world come grading.

Ok edited it one last time. You were missing a question mark and like a comma. So I fixed that. Your formatting looks fine. So I

oops- submitted that last comment on accident.

SO I don't know if you fixed your formatting issue or if it just looks messed up on your side. I don't see anything else wrong with your page.

Oh yea. your stuff wasn't in APA format. I did one of the sources for you. I'm not sure if you used the other since its not referenced in your page. So either remove it from your sources, or reference it accordingly.
